Step Up On Vine Grand Opening
Monday, January 15th marked the grand opening of Step Up On Vine, a permanent supportive housing project in Hollywood. In attendance were the former President of the United States, Bill Clinton, Kobe and Vanessa Bryant and other celebrities and esteemed guests.
All attendees showed up to raise awareness about the fight to end homelessness in Los Angeles, and to celebrate the completion of Step Up On Vine. As a testament to the vision founded by two non-profit housing developers, Step Up On Second (www.stepuponsecond.org) and Hollywood Community Housing Corporation (www.hollywoodhousing.org), Step Up On Vine will not only provide 34 units of affordable housing, but also a ground floor commercial kitchen to provide meals for the residents.
During the celebration, it was announced that Step Up On Vine received the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum certification. Platinum is the highest level awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council for energy efficiency. To achieve the Platinum certification, Step Up On Vine included such sustainable features as: green screens on the exterior; low-E windows; low-flow plumbing fixtures; installation of a grey water/irrigation system; a 50 kW solar array on the roof deck; and a solar thermal hot water system.
